Ballymore GAA 133 years of history

Ballymore is one of the oldest clubs in the county. It was founded in 1884 although it didn’t affiliate to the Westmeath GAA until 1893. However a game of football was popular in the area for some years before that.

When the club affiliated to the Westmeath GAA in 1893, until a dispute caused the break up of the young association and the County committee disbanded. A new County Committee was formed in 1899 and they organised a competition for 1900 with the winners getting a cup. This competition was by invitation only and Ballymore got an invitation to take part which was accepted.

The first recorded report of a match which was played in Coffey’s field in Moyvoughly in 1903 between Ballymore “Brian Boru’s” as they were named at that time and “Moate Invincibles”. The match was a friendly and was played on the 13th of December 1903.

Since those early days the Ballymore has establshed itself as a highly competitive club with superb facilities the envy of many around Westmeath. Currently the club firlds at Intermediate level and in both Division 3 and 4 of the league.

It has a strong underage section via an amalagtion with Milltown GAA called Millmore Gaels.
